"The Defects" is yet another creative crime action thriller from South Korea.
The story revolves around an illicit baby factory, where children are genetically engineered to meet the high expectations of ultra-wealthy parents who bid to purchase them in an auction. Those children who don't meet the grade can be returned by their parents under warranty, like a defective machine, and can then be "disposed of".
This series crafts solid characters with unfortunate backstories, who have failed to meet their cruel parents' often impossible expectations and have been returned, only to be spared a ruthless end by the criminal tasked with their disposal. A man who has grown a conscience and acts as their guardian.
Action and thrills are plenty, as the matured defects, now in their 20's, take on the crime syndicate who created them and seek revenge against their heartless parents.
The only downside is a dash of the obligatory woke nonsense, which we could all do without but not enough to be truly irritating.
In summary, a somewhat original, wholly watchable crime action thriller from South Korea. Worth a look.
