That the film begins and ends, with the horror of human need, that is, as the limit stages of "life-death" existence, with a 10-year-old girl and Tomazs, the town's postman, respectively, run over, should not be considered Leszczynski's sense of humor, but rather as a sly gesture of fate itself, one's marauder, playing its usual joke on human beings who believe possible what we ignore will be impossible, and what We give up because it is impossible, not knowing the possibilities of achieving it. The plot is somewhat trite but executed with beautiful brushstrokes that combine with the extraordinary game of human-spiritual mirrors, such as, for example, Bartlomiej, an old man who has no assets except a tiny wooden house and the rest of his wealth is to officiate the funeral words due to his deep spirituality; a beautiful woman, Sonia, bathing a horse in the middle of the river and giving little Bartek a book; a curious child like everyone else, adoring his cow Laura and carrying his book of miracles everywhere: the cloud over there is a miracle, that tree is a miracle; an old woman, Aniela, the most miserly in the town and therefore hated, asking for a "recommendation" from Bartlomiej for her acquittal, without getting it. The following could have been the plot synopses:the story of a child and the various adventures of the environment (his cow being killed to eat it, the girls bullying him by showing their underwear and raising their skirt) that do not end up spoiling his innocence and faith, even if it is naive and childish; or, the story of a deeply spiritual and religious man who needs a successor when he senses his approaching death and, upon finding him in the postman, the Fates snatch him from him to repeat, although it is not said here in the film, that the Lord has other plans and knows what he is doing. In any case, more than one viewer will be able to find a lesson in the story, some like me, more than two.
