The primary objective is to infiltrate the tanker Discovery, which is transporting a prototype Metal Gear RAY, and to take photographic evidence of it to expose its existence to the world. The mission begins with Snake bungie jumping from the Hudson River onto the tanker's deck.

The Plant Chapter in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty is the second major section of the game, following the Tanker Chapter, and is played from the perspective of the new protagonist, Raiden. This chapter takes place after the events of the Tanker Chapter and is generally longer and features more outdoor environments compared to the more confined spaces of the previous chapter.
