Team challenge: In addition to the standard skate, the celebrity skaters split into two teams captained by the two most consistent skaters, Sam and Laura, with every member of the winning team's points being doubled.[13] The teams were Laura and Colin, Jeff and Isabelle and Denise and Matt and they took on Sam and Brianne, Chloe and Michael and Johnson and Jodeyne. Dancing on Ice returned for an eighth series on Sunday 6 January 2013. Philip Schofield and Christine Bleakley returned as hosts, with Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean as mentors to the celebrities. Louie Spence and Katarina Witt left their roles as judges and were replaced by Jason Gardiner, Ashley Roberts and Karen Barber. Robin Cousins returned as head judge.

Four skating stars have made it this far, but for one it will end in heartbreak just one week away from making the final. The semi finalists all perform two new routines, one of which will see them take to the air as they learn to fly. Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean are the proud parents who have coached them all to this stage, but one of their protégés will fall short. Only the best will impress the Ice Panel, who will be as uncompromising as ever, as they judge on both routines. Two stars will agonisingly have to perform their Save Me skates in Dancing on Ice : The Skate Off to stay in the competition, and for one, a place in the final will be out of their grasp.
