Twenty-four couples competed in four dance categories and the top three couples in each category advanced to "The Finals."

The four finalists named champion of each ballroom dance style (smooth, rhythm, Latin, standard) compete for the title of "America's Best" ballroom dance couple.

Professional ballroom dancers compete for the championship title of World Professional Smooth: Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, and Viennese Waltz. The winning couple advances to the final of America's Ballroom Challenge.

Professional ballroom dancers compete for the championship title of World Professional Rhythm: Cha Cha, Rumba, Swing, Bolero, and Mambo. The winning couple advances to the final of America's Ballroom Challenge.

Professional ballroom dancers compete for the championship title of the International Standard: Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot, and Quickstep. The winning couple advances to the final of America's Ballroom Challenge.

Professional ballroom dancers compete for the championship title of the International Latin: Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, and Jive. The winning couple advances to the final of America's Ballroom Challenge.

In what proved to be an incredible competition, all four of the championship ballroom dance couples, from the Smooth, Rhythm, Standard, and Latin, brought their best to the dance floor, and one championship couple was crowned.
