Revenge (2018)

(CASTELLANO) Revenge es de esas películas que te agarran al principio y no te sueltan hasta que termina el último disparo. Coralie Fargeat debuta con una historia de venganza brutal, sin necesidad de demasiados diálogos ni florituras, dejando que sean las imágenes —gore, impactantes, casi hipnóticas— las que hablen por sí solas. No cuesta nada entender de dónde viene ahora ese tono visual tan potente que ha llevado a La Sustancia. La evolución del personaje principal es una de esas cosas que, sin hacer ruido, va calando. Arranca como un cliché de manual y termina convertida en algo salvaje y liberador. El enfoque feminista está ahí, pero no se siente como un discurso forzado: simplemente fluye, mientras ves cómo cada golpe, cada herida, moldea a una protagonista que ya no está dispuesta a ser una víctima. El ritmo es un poco exagerado a ratos, y alguna que otra situación roza lo inverosímil, pero la energía de Fargeat consigue que no te importe. Lo importante es la rabia que se respira en cada escena y cómo te arrastra. Revenge es sucia, violenta, catártica y, sobre todo, muy entretenida. (ENGLISH) Revenge is one of those films that grabs you from the start and doesn’t let go until the very last shot. Coralie Fargeat makes her debut with a brutal revenge story, without needing too much dialogue or unnecessary frills, letting the images —gory, shocking, almost hypnotic— do all the talking. It’s easy to see now where that strong visual style in The Substance comes from. The evolution of the main character is one of those things that slowly sinks in without making a fuss. She starts off as a walking cliché and ends up becoming something wild and empowering. The feminist angle is there, but it doesn’t feel forced; it just flows naturally as you watch every blow and every wound shape someone who refuses to stay a victim. The pace gets a bit over the top at times, and a few moments stretch credibility, but Fargeat’s raw energy makes you not care. What matters is the rage pulsing through every scene and how it pulls you in. Revenge is dirty, violent, cathartic, and, most of all, seriously entertaining.
