An extremely interesting piece of Mexican cinema, not only because of Revueltas' punctilious script and the few scenes left behind by the enigmatic actress Eva Martino (Lucrecia) in her other aspect, which was singing, interpreting "Me vuelves loca" by Sergio de Karlo. "The night advances" is not about protagonists or heroes, it only focuses on a villain, the pelotari and idol of the Mexican fronton Marcos Arizmendi; hooligan who does not thank any human and on top of that yells at it as if it were a Hellenic virtue; hooligan whose name at the mere denouement will only deserve a pee from the stray dog, but for whom, in life, the whole world did not deserve him, unless he always offered him the most insane opulence, sporty adulation and disposable women like Rebeca Villareal, the beautiful Lucrecia or the newcomer from her past, Rosa; all of them, but also the secondary villains, scammers and low-level gamblers like Marcial Gómez and Lee chan himself, are like satellites revolving around Armendariz, the quintessence of narcissism at the height of his sports career but who must necessarily bet his last game and let himself lose to erase his cynical past, forget about the son he gave Rebeca. Too bad Marcos, the rascal, didn't listen to the other rascal, Lee chan, when he reminded him of the Chinese aphorism "don't look too high, you never find a diamond in the air." Well, right in the air he received his reckoning for whoever would have made him happy at another time without his villainy, there in the air in full flight, believing that he had outwitted everyone, from the police to Marcial's thugs who did not comply, throwing him into the drunk river. Before the credits, a dog pee for the name of someone who thought no one would forget it.
